On October 17th 2013, suddenly and sadly we lost Lonny’s Dad, our Dad, and one of our greatest Lonny’s Smile fans – Hardy G. Doerksen. The launch of Lonny’s Smile in 2010 was one of Dad’s happiest moments, and he marked the occasion by building a small replica of Lonny’s trike which is proudly displayed in our Lonny’s Smile office. It meant so much to Dad that through Lonny’s Smile the memory of his little boy would live forever and that other kids like Lonny would have the chance to just be kids.
Lonny always wanted to go along wherever our Dad went – in the field when he was bailing hay, hauling a load of grain to town, checking in on the cattle in the pasture, or working in the shop. As difficult as it is to lose Dad, it brings us joy to think about Lonny and Dad together again, hand in hand, catching up, going everywhere together, and talking about the difference that Lonny’s Smile is making.
We miss you, Dad. You take care of Lonny, and we’ll take care of keeping Lonny’s Smile and Lonny’s little red trike pedaling forward.
